Schools Tennis

The USTA Net Generation Schools Program aims to bring more keiki into the game by providing access to tennis during and after school.

Welcome to Tennis

Net Generation is the USTA youth platform that promotes early entry into the sport of tennis. Easy to learn and tailored for all ages and abilities, tennis offers kids a game that will help them stay active, build friendships, and develop life skills in a positive environment.

Through Net Generation initiatives based on the American Development Model (ADM), parents and their young players can track their development across three main stages of growth – introductory Team Challenges, intermediate Junior Team Tennis, and Junior Circuit tournament play.

Most importantly, Net Generation brings players to the court, providing countless opportunities to learn, grow, and excel not just in tennis, but in everyday life. With a full slate of unique and innovative activities, there’s never been a better time to join the Net Generation.

EQUIPMENT

The USTA is proud to support tennis programming for school children across Hawaii, providing essential equipment at no cost. The equipment package includes 30 racquets, 18 red felt tennis balls and 18 foam tennis balls, two rolls of barrier tape, a box of chalk, a hard copy of the USTA Schools curriculum, and a convenient equipment rolling bag.

CURRICULUM

The USTA Net Generation school curricula were developed for Physical Education teachers and their class structure. With turnkey lesson plans, created with SHAPE America (The Society of Health and Physical Educators), teachers are given the proper tools to teach tennis. Lesson plans are based on the SHAPE America National Standards and grade-level outcomes for K-12 Physical Education.

TRAINING

USTA Hawaii Pacific offers school districts and physical educators the opportunity to host (at no expense) an in-person professional development session, which will be run by USTA Hawaii Pacific staff. To qualify, the host must bring together at least ten staff/faculty for a few hours in an activity space such as a gym or blacktop. It’s the first step in bringing tennis programming to your students!

TEACHERS

Bring Tennis To Your School - For Free!

Through a partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Hawaii teachers can receive FREE tennis equipment packs, curriculum resources, and ongoing support to introduce tennis in PE classes or after-school programs.

No tennis background required - our program is designed to make it simple, fun and easy to teach. No courts needed either - Tennis can be played in any space (basketball court, gym, open field, etc).

How to Get Started

Getting your school registered is quick and straightforward.

Follow the steps outlined in the graphic below to register your school and qualify for your free equipment pack. Once completed, your school will receive the equipment pack of 30 racquets, 36 balls, tape (for nets), large roller bag, chalk, etc and access to teaching resources to help you confidently bring tennis to your students.

On-Site Support for Teachers

We're also available to come directly to your school for live demonstrations and example lessons. Our team can walk teachers through games, drills and practice formats so you feel comfortable and confident running tennis classes on your own moving forward.

Our goal is to make this easy, sustainable, and fun for both the teachers and students.
